August 2024 had a whopping five Fridays, meaning an abundance of new music releases and more than 50 tracks on this month’s playlist. Long-time No Depression artists like roots royalty Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, folk artist Amos Lee, and country singer-songwriter Shelby Lynn all released new records, as did a number of today’s leading blues musicians like Ruthie Foster and Shemekia Copeland. Additionally, August’s Spotlight artists, Wild Ponies, finally realized their dreams on Dreamers, and roots-punk legends X closed out their career with Smoke & Fiction.
